BACKSLIDING

Today’s Devotional

“Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God.”

Jeremiah 3:22 KJV

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…..

Are you finding yourself backsliding ? As Christians sometimes we find our self slipping and trying to do things our way instead of God’s way. If we are not careful, we will lose sight of what the Lord wants us to do and lose sight of his grace and begin to backslide. After reading the book of Jeremiah, I found out that he was considered one of the major Prophets. His book is quit long, 52 chapters, longer than Isaiah and longer than Ezekiel or the 12 Minor Prophets combined. In his book he prophesies throughout the chapters. His call to ministry lasted for more than 40 years. Actually he was called before he was born and it was planned by God. In the verse above, Jeremiah was trying to tell Israel not to turn their back on God or not to turn away from Him. The people of Israel were still stubborn and rebellious and failed to listen to Jeremiah. God even offered a new Covenant. In the book of Jeremiah it says:” Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:” Jeremiah 33:33 KJV  This meant that God will make with mankind by extending His grace to the Gentiles under His new covenant. This new and unconditional covenant is better than the old covenant because it rest on the efficacy of Christ’s atonement for the sins of mankind. Still they thought they could do everything on their own and they dare listen to God nor Jeremiah. In the end this angered God and it led to destruction. So if you think you can live your life without God, think again. Put your trust and Faith in Jesus Christ, because He is the one that put all of your sins on the cross and died so you could have the gift of eternal life. Amen
