WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT THE END TIMES BIBLE PROPHECY – 70 WEEKS OF DANIEL

“Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.”

Daniel 9:24 KJV

In Thessalonians we can see the early Christians were scared they were in the Tribulation so Paul speaks about the facts and tries to set them straight on the coming of the Lord and His return. In 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 KJV, “Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;” Paul knew his old testament and old testament prophecy.  You will find he refers to the end times with terms from the Old Testament in Thessalonians. It says, “But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.” 1 Thessalonians 5:1-5 KJV  Notice how he repeats the thought of light and day and compares it with night and darkness.  He is making a point. In Joel 2:1-2, 10-11 KJV, “Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand; A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations. The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining: And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?” In Amos 5:18-20 KJV, “Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light. As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. hall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?” It seems likely that Paul was reading Amos when you see the words he uses in 1 Thessalonians. 5:1-5.  The contrast is powerful go back and re-read it. He makes it pretty plain we are not of the night or darkness, it will not overtake us. In Zephaniah 1:14-15 KJV, “The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,” The other very strong contrast Paul uses is what the next coming of the Lord means to Christians is in the Book of 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 KJV, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” Compare that to what we just read in Joel 2:11 KJV, “And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?”  Doesn’t sound comforting at all, while Paul says the rapture is comforting. We must realize that Revelation is all based on Daniel, so to know Revelation, you must  know Daniel.  You will quickly notice how the metaphors are taken from Daniel over and over, but most importantly you will see Daniels 70 7′s have one 7 year period left, which is what Revelation is all about.  Daniel lays out the plan,  and John in Revelation expands on the same thing Daniel prophesied about just with more detail. The general facts about Daniel 9 are the it is about the Seventy Sevens. 1) There is a specific period of time marked out by God. 2) The prophecy is specifically related to the Jews and Jerusalem Daniel 9:24  “Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city, and 3) The total scene lasts 70 periods of 7.  * 70 – 7′s What are they ? *  A one week period in the Bible often refers to a 7 Year period, not a 7 day week. In Genesis 29:18-27 KJV, “And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter. And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me. And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her. And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her. And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast. And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her. And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid. And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me? And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.” Also Daniel Writes, “At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision. Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” Daniel 9:23-27 KJV  Notice how the 70 -7′s are divided into 3 segments. 7 – 62 – 1  or  49 yrs. – 434yrs. – 7yrs.  I did not divide them into 7, then 62 and then 1,  the Bible did.  Why, is the last 7 year period left hanging out there.  You need to very carefully look at this, why did God separate it? When did the 70 7′s start ? Daniel says, “From the going forth of the command to restore and rebuild Jerusalem” The prophecy begins with the decree by Artaxerxes Longinimus in the 20th year of his reign. That was around 445 B.C. In Nehemiah 2:1-8 KJV. “And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence. Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid, And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire? Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers’ sepulchres, that I may build it. And the king said unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time. Moreover I said unto the king, If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may convey me over till I come into Judah; And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.” AFTER 69 WEEKS MESSIAH WILL BE CUT OFF. From the decree to rebuild Jerusalem to (NISAN (April) 10th A.D. 32 is 173,880 days) when Christ entered Jerusalem through the Golden Gate, 3 days later he was crucified…Remember the Jewish calendar is on lunar years or 360 day years. It comes out to exactly 483 years to the day. So, if the first 69 weeks are now Historical and they have been fulfilled to the day from Daniels prophecy the what should we expect next? If one week is still future, that one week still is to fulfill the same purpose. Ask your self, what does the Bible say the reason of all 70 7′s was for? This is very important, because until you understand why there are even 70 – 7′s you cannot possibly understand the purpose of the last 7 years. The Bible names 6 objectives of  70 – 7′s  1) To finish transgression of Israel. 2) To bring an end to sin. 3) To make atonement for iniquity  of Israel 4) To bring in everlasting righteousness. 5)  To seal up vision and prophecy. 6) To anoint the most Holy (place or One). This 70 weeks prophecy of Daniel 9 doesn’t end there though.  Something else was prophesied that would happen in Daniel 9:26 KJV,  “And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.” The Roman army in 70 AD, came and destroyed the city of Jerusalem: he city of Jerusalem was completely leveled by the Romans, which also was foretold by Christ in Mark 13:2 KJV,  “And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” Sadly, the fulfillment of this prophecy also speaks of a tragic event in this verse, “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” Daniel 9:27 KJV  So this amazing 70 weeks of Daniel confirms Jesus Christ as the Messiah. So Focus on following Jesus and obeying and keeping God’s Commandments. We can learn important lessons from Daniel about how God answers our prayers. So why not focus on Jesus Christ and open your heart to Him today because He is the One that died on the cross and shed His blood for your sins so you could have that free gift of eternal life. Amen
